[2] Ports connecting the disk server to the network for the purpose of provisioning storage. The number of hosts served by each port varies with workload. SANmelody will operate on disk servers that have more ports than shown under each Category column. However, the maximum number of front-end ports that SANmelody will take advantage of is governed by the license parameters established for each Category. For example, the Category A software will run on a disk server with 5 Ethernet ports, but will use only 2 ports to serve disk space to networked hosts. As you go from Category A to Categories B, C and D, the respective software licenses enable more front-end ports to be used concurrently, thereby enhancing the potential I/O throughput of the disk server. |
