DataCore's SANmelody Eases Storage Growth for The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford
Leading Research Centre Selects DataCore's Disk Server Software
READING, England - May 10, 2005 - DataCore Software today announced that the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics has chosen SANmelody software for its storage management requirements. The solution will enable the Wellcome Trust to deploy a cost-effective storage solution benefiting from a highly scalable and available architecture to meet its ever-expanding storage needs.
The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford was established in 1994 to undertake research into the genetic basis of common diseases. The Wellcome Trust itself is an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health. Established in 1936 and with an endowment of around £10 billion, it is the UK's largest non-governmental source of funds for biomedical research.
"Today, scientific, research-focused organisations like ours are faced with extremely complex storage management tasks," said Tim Bardsley, IT Manager at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. "Our expanding research programmes and increasing data are forcing an exponential growth in our data storage requirements, a phenomenon seen across the scientific research industry. Being charity funded, we need to balance our storage capacity needs with a tight control on spending, ensuring that we are able to demonstrate value-for-money purchases to our sponsors. With SANmelody we have been able to use low cost SATA-IDE type storage and present this to the user community via iSCSi and Fibre Channel."
"Organisations like Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics are looking for solutions that can grow along with data volumes," said Nick Broadbent, European Director at DataCore Software. "To meet the strict demands placed on data availability, SANmelody can turn very low cost storage into a high-performance storage solution. We are pleased that Wellcome Trust is now benefiting from the advantages that SANmelody has to offer."
