LG Electronics of Korea Selects DataCore's SANsymphony™

Adds Performance, High-Availability, and Consolidated Management to HP and EMC Storage

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (November 29, 2004) — DataCore Software, a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, today announced that LG Electronics, Inc. (Korea Exchange: Revenues US $16.9 billion) a major global force in electronics, information and communications products has implemented SANsymphony™ software from DataCore to manage its storage network that spans and pools different HP and EMC storage systems.

LG Electronics needed to find a way to maximize its existing HP storage and EMC systems. The IT mangers involved, researched the industry to discover a solution to address their needs. The objective was simple; they needed to pool the storage and execute common storage services across these different systems. However they had two major concerns. The architecture had to be highly-available and multi-pathed to make sure that its production IBM AIX systems would never go down. Secondly they worried that any management and virtualization software would slow performance which they could not afford. Also, they knew the solution selected had to work across their mix of IBM, HP and EMC systems - not an easy task. To address their concerns and the performance issue they competed their proposal to multiple vendors and heavily benchmarked the systems. In the end, SANsymphony was the winner.

"We were very surprised to find that DataCore's powerful I/O caching in benchmarks had dramatically accelerated performance across a mix of storage," stated IT manager Park. "More importantly, since it has been deployed in production, our AIX applications have run faster and that's the true test of performance."

SANsymphony enabled LG Electronics to better support critical AIX applications by ensuring that storage was made available to their systems 24x7. SANsymphony centralized the management of HP and EMC storage resources under a scalable, fully redundant, virtualized pool - eliminating lapses in data availability from any single hardware vendor failure and avoiding downtime that results from normal storage maintenance.

"We are delighted to be able to count LG Electronics as a major user of DataCore's SANsymphony software," declared Peter Thompson, vice president of Asia Pacific Operations at DataCore. "SANsymphony allows LG Electronics to leverage its storage investment, increase performance, and simplify its overall storage management."

Systems integrator ACI configured the powerful SANsymphony solution. The storage network is comprised of two DataCore SANsymphony 'storage domain server' nodes in a fault-tolerant configuration, multiple Brocade switches, HP and EMC storage systems and includes advanced productivity-enhancing features such as Snapshot and Network-Wide Mirroring that spans the storage pool.
