DataCore SANmelody Sets Price/Performance Mark For Disk Subsystems on SPC-1

Load-and-Go Software Running on PC Servers Proves Fast and Economical in Head-to-head Benchmark™ Comparisons

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (April 14, 2004) — DataCore Software, a leading independent software vendor specializing in storage control, management and consolidation, today announced it has achieved the best price performance yet reported for a disk subsystem in the Storage Performance Council's SPC-1 Benchmark™ -- the only objective standard for storage performance comparisons. Using its SANmelody™ Disk Server software and only a single, off-the-shelf, dual-CPU PC Server, DataCore reported 19,949 IOPS, equal or better than the absolute performance of any mid-range and many high-end storage platforms. As a result, DataCore established the lowest price per Input/Output Operations (IOPS) in the Storage Performance Council's SPC-1 Benchmark for any conventional Disk Subsystem, $4.06 per SPC-1 IOPS™. Only solid-state storage systems show better price / performance.

The price / performance mark was even better than the previous SPC-1 record of $4.58 per IOP for an onboard, direct attach RAID controller and much better (two to four times or more) than that of any comparable multi-user disk system. In addition, the DataCore submission once again topped the unofficial IOP to disk spindle-efficiency ratio by achieving more than 350 SPC-1 IOPS per disk. The modest DataCore hardware configuration used a single low-cost server with 2 GB of memory and only 56 disk drives.
