German Public Utilities and Transportation Firm Implements SANsymphony™ DVV on DataCore's Storage Platform FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 1, 2004) — DataCore Software, a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, today announced Duisburger Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (DVV) has chosen DataCore's software-based storage solution for the further expansion of its storage area network (SAN). DVV has a heterogeneous application and storage environment in place. The company required a storage solution independent of hardware to provide greater flexibility to reduce financial expenditure over the long term for storage management. "Our storage costs have continuously increased, but there was no guaranteed reliability with regards to storing our data," said G�nter Althoff from DVV. "The Internet and the press drew our attention to DataCore. A workshop convinced us of the reliability and usability of its management software for our SAN." SANsymphony™ was installed by DataCore's Elite partner Bechtle on storage domain servers (SDS) and connected via fiber channel switches to the application servers and the storage subsystems. "SANsymphony is the ideal storage solution for public companies such as DVV, with its high demands on the storage infrastructure and its heterogeneous application and storage environment," said Bernhard Margos, managing director of Bechtle in Solingen. "SANsymphony makes it possible to assign storage capacities to applications flexibly and on demand." In total, some 11 TB of storage capacity are managed at DVV, whereby 6 TB are assigned as virtual storage to the application servers. The system environment includes Windows 2000, Linux and NetWare application servers running applications such as Oracle-based databases, IBM Lotus Notes, file and eDirectory servers. "Companies with a heterogeneous application and storage environment are not able to fully utilize available storage resources," said Bharat Kumar, worldwide marketing director at DataCore. "SANsymphony compensates for the differences in hardware components by creating a storage pool, which replaces the independently acting storage subsystems, giving the customer freedom of choice and strong economic benefits.
