Conseco Finance's Chief Architect Outlines How His Team Doubled Storage Capacity Utilization with DataCore Software
Case Study Featured at Storage Networking World Will Also Address Secure, Cost-Effective Disaster Recovery Strategy
PHOENIX (Storage Networking World -- April 14, 2003) Rod Lucero, chief architect of Conseco Finance Corporation, will discuss how the $39 billion financial services giant layered DataCore's storage management software on existing high-end disk arrays -- doubling the effective capacity utilization and deferring substantial new storage purchases. Lucero will present a detailed case study at the Storage Networking World conference in Phoenix, Arizona, April 14-17. He'll also join a panel of corporate users discussing the storage issues enterprises worry about most.
Lucero, whose team manages 70 terabytes of mission-critical storage that is constantly expanding, hasn't had to purchase new storage hardware in 11 months -- almost unheard-of for an enterprise of its size. Lucero, unwilling to accept the industry's so-called 'standard' capacity utilization rate of just 40 percent, chose DataCore's SANsymphony software to automate the allocation of storage. With SANsymphony, Conseco Finance doubled its storage capacity utilization to 85 percent, delivering a significant savings while eliminating nearly all tedious maintenance and administration tasks associated with storage provisioning.
In the past five years, Lucero has tapped multiple new technologies to ensure high-availability, streamline administration and implement a cost-effective path for ongoing growth. Today, Conseco Finance, the fourth largest diversified finance company in the U.S., leverages virtual servers and storage, server-less backups and self-assured disaster recovery between its data centers in St. Paul, Minnesota and Tempe, Arizona.
