IBM EXAct Partners Boost Storage Performance with DataCore SANsymphony Software in Japan
85 Percent Database Speed-up Validated with IBM xSeries 440 Servers
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 3, 2002) DataCore Software, a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, announced today that IBM Japan xSeries EXAct sales channel partners, Nippon information and communication, Japan Business Computer and Matsushita System Solutions, will distribute DataCore's SANsymphony storage management software with IBM eServer xSeries 440 servers.
SANsymphony transforms networked high-end xSeries 440 Servers into redundant storage domain servers to consolidate and automate the management of heterogeneous storage resources. The combination of DataCore software and IBM hardware enables customers to protect data and manage storage capacity efficiently, while reducing the workload of system managers and lowering the total cost of ownership.
IDC Japan, an IT research company reported that the Japanese storage software market is expected to exceed 100 billion yen by 2006. To meet the rapidly increasing demand for storage management software in the market, DataCore and IBM undertook a joint verification for a disk I/O speed-up solution in SAN environments. The joint solution has demonstrated 85 percent disk access speed improvements over standalone disk arrays, as well as 15 percent faster updates.
The database measurements revealed two to 15 times performance gains in reading processes and fourfold improvement when writing database records. Similar performance boosts have been reported by end-users in several other scenarios across vertical industries.
"In an industry that considers 5 to 10 percent boost in database performance to be significant, the acceleration afforded by the combination of SANsymphony software and IBM xSeries servers is extraordinary. It's also well proven and affordable," said Peter Thompson, director of Asia Pacific for DataCore. "The integration and value-add provided by our IBM EXAct Partners ensures that customers will experience substantial response time benefits and a smooth implementation from these turbo-charging products."
The xSeries family of IBM Intel-based servers combines industry-standard features with IBM mainframe-inspired capabilities to produce revolutionary advances in the I/O, memory and performance. The xSeries440 may be configured with up to 8 Intel Xeon Processor MP, enabling it to achieve innovative performance, scalability and availability.
DataCore's I/O caching techniques and built-in software redundancy operate in front of heterogeneous storage assets to improve disk performance and manageability. SANsymphony software is part of a complete business solution that has been identified, validated, optimized and documented to run reliably on IBM servers.
