DataCore Expands Network Storage Services for Cisco-based IP and "Hybrid" Networks

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 11, 2003) — DataCore Software, a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, today announced that its SANsymphony™ software has completed interoperability testing to support "hybrid" IP-based storage networks built on intelligent Cisco storage switches and routers, including the SN 5428. SANsymphony software dramatically increases overall storage performance and adds advanced network storage services including disaster recovery over IP, multi-vendor storage pooling and auto-provisioning of capacity to Cisco-based storage infrastructures.

Hybrid Networks - A Breakthrough "Best of Both Worlds" Approach
In addition to pure iSCSI networks, DataCore and intelligent Cisco storage routers enable a powerful hybrid approach that addresses the current performance deficiencies of IP-based storage. A hybrid network combines IP client-connectivity with high-performance Fibre Channel (FC)-networked storage services to ensure scalable throughput and response characteristics. Essentially, DataCore leverages the current performance advantages of FC for the storage network, while employing iSCSI connectivity and fabric for broad client access, yielding the best of both worlds.

"Storage users are demanding the benefits of advanced network storage services without the disruption and cost of redeploying their entire network. After evaluating what actually exists in the marketplace today, the choice is clear - Cisco storage routers and SANsymphony offer the best value to our clientele," said Raulf Braun, vice president Solutions Partnering, CEMA AG Systems Integrators.

Performance and Scalability - Unmatched Network I/O and Throughput
DataCore's SANsymphony software carries its track record of unmatched performance and massive scalability into the realm of IP storage. Robust and dual-redundant, SANsymphony's basic configuration can achieve more than 400,000 I/Os per second and deliver over 2 GB per second in throughput, making them uniquely suitable for very large numbers of iSCSI storage consumers. These phenomenal figures scale linearly as nodes are added to expand the workloads serviced by the consolidated storage pool.

These performance and scaling attributes are significant in two ways. First, a relatively inexpensive infrastructure investment can be amortized over a sizable number of users, ensuring that all benefit from a common, centrally managed storage resource. They also ensure that the most demanding I/O requirements are satisfied without compromising quality of service or data availability.

Allows Existing Networks to Serve Diverse Storage Consumers
The combination of SANsymphony software and the Cisco SN 5428 routers allows customers to leverage existing IP infrastructure while extending the benefits of a centrally managed storage pool to a wider community of storage clients. DataCore is committed to providing customers with storage networking infrastructure choices that allow them to deploy Fibre Channel or IP according to their business requirements.

SANsymphony software features breakthroughs in storage network manageability through automation, robust business recovery options, performance acceleration, simple administrative interfaces and the industry's broadest range of wire-agnostic connectivity. Automated centralized services and discovery capabilities provided by SANsymphony ensures that server, storage and employee resources are fully utilized. SANsymphony replaces much of the manual intervention and disruption that cripples business operations and overwhelms administrative personnel today. Storage consumers gain unprecedented cost-savings and enhanced business productivity.

"Cisco storage routers enable our mutual customers to conveniently and cost-effectively connect centrally managed storage pools using existing IP infrastructure, without having to replace or retrofit Fibre Channel disk arrays," said Ken Horner, vice president of marketing with DataCore. "As a result, a broader user community now can enjoy the benefits of the advanced storage services and disaster recovery alternatives provided by SANsymphony software."
