DataCore SANsymphony™ Delivers Dramatic Performance Boost for Krug Litho's Prepress Operations

Storage Networking Software Increases Productivity and Revenue Opportunities

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2002) — DataCore Software, a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, today announced that Krug Litho Art, an independent prepress company has achieved a system-wide 300 percent performance boost to throughput rates and dramatically increased the shop's productivity since implementing a storage area network (SAN) managed by DataCore's award-winning SANsymphony™ software.

"In my position, I rarely hear compliments — but within days of implementing SANsymphony, I heard directly from my users about a noticeable improvement in how quickly they can access and manipulate enormous graphics files," said Keith Stanley, director of technology for Krug Litho. "The software makes us more productive, delivers a very clear ROI and makes me a hero."

Kansas City-based Krug Litho specializes in preparing enormous, multi-gigabyte digital files for commercial printing. Krug has been serving local and national customers, primarily in the catalog and fashion industry, for more than 50 years. When the company's data storage was reaching maximum capacity with no end to the growth in sight, Krug turned to its IT integrator, Carrollton, Texas-based Proactive Technologies, to explore storage networking options.

In the graphics industry, profits are a direct function of the number of printing projects that can be accomplished within demanding customer deadlines. After extensive testing, Krug decided on a SAN configured around SANsymphony to speed throughput and boost productivity. The software's caching capabilities accelerated the responsiveness of existing storage, eliminated data flow bottlenecks and enabled Krug's 20 prepress production workstations nearly immediate response from very large graphics files.

"Krug Litho's need for reliable, high-performance data storage management exemplifies a major challenge in this growing multi-billion dollar sector," said Ken Horner, DataCore's vice president of marketing. "SANsymphony's unique Network-Powered Storage™ architecture supports blazingly-fast throughput, making it an ideal solution for overcoming bottlenecks caused by the sheer size of data files generated with the latest digital technologies."

SANsymphony Breaks Performance Records
DataCore's software-based approach consolidates storage resources — from any vendor — into a redundant, easily managed, virtual pool that ensures that even if hardware fails, the SAN will continue to deliver high-performance data access. Earlier this month, the company announced world-record I/O performance numbers, audited by the independent analyst firm, Evaluator Group.

SANsymphony's performance was measured in a representative storage area network composed of cost-effective commodity hardware. The results were impressive on all aspects of the evaluation designed to demonstrate the software's ability to tap the latest, fastest off-the-shelf servers as storage network accelerators. Based on "envelope" tests that measured extreme data access conditions of cache hostile or friendly, reads or write, and sequential or random, SANsymphony achieved:
  • 8 to 25 times the highest-published performance capability of any other storage virtualization scheme,
  • 3 to 20 times the performance of any mid-range array,
  • 2 to 10 times the performance of any comparably configured high-end storage subsystem.
