Oxford University selects DataCore's SANsymphony™

Reading, UK, 27 June, 2002 — DataCore Software a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, today announced that the Oxford University Clinical School, a world leader in education, has chosen SANsymphony for its storage management requirements.

Tim Shaw, Deputy Director for Systems and Networking, explains, "SANsymphony offered us significantly greater utilisation of our existing legacy storage investments. As an educational institution, we have real constraints on our IT expenditure, so SANsymphony was rigorously and successfully evaluated to assess it potential to deliver genuine benefits and savings."

The Oxford University Clinical School Information Management Services Unit (IMSU) is installing SANsymphony into their current Novell® NetWare® dominated 'SAN in a box' storage solution, enabling better management of data pools across directories, clients and various legacy systems.

Prompted by the immediate requirement for additional storage capacity, the IMSU turned to DataCore partner, TriSys who recommended SANsymphony. SANsymphony is now freeing the Clinical School from the constraints of its proprietary solution, whilst also enabling it to get the most out of its existing storage resources.

"Automation, consolidation, flexibility and a good return on investment is what our customers want," said TriSys Director, Bram de Groot. "With the right mix of hardware and software we can ensure systems work more efficiently and effectively." "DataCore software was absolutely the right application for this environment and offered excellent performance with the added bonus of leaving IMSU vendor choice open for the future," he added.

The IMSU had detailed criteria against which it judged a number of solutions and approaches to better manage its growing data. For example, with important ongoing research, the Clinical School needed increased performance and scalability for its increasing data and SANsymphony's cross-platform management capability enables the Clinical School to cost-effectively store its images, gene sequencing projects and other data.

"DataCore has an established network across Europe of value added integrators and resellers such as TriSys, who can offer valuable consultative advise to customers such as the Oxford University Clinical School," commented Marcus Thompson, Director of Strategic Partner Development EMEA, DataCore Software. "Through our Partner, TriSys, we have been able to deliver significant value to the Oxford University Clinical School and transform its data management approach."

Furthermore, flexibility in choice of future disk storage vendors, together with improved centralised management and reliable data replication was also a key. SANsymphony met all these criteria as well as enabling Oxford Clinical School to facilitate reliable disaster recovery using the new Asynchronous IP Mirroring component.
