DataCore's SANsymphony Enters Swiss Banking Software Sector
DataCore's Virtualization Software Chosen by Swiss Software Manufacturer finis AG FÜR BANKENSOFTWARE
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Nov. 12, 2001) DataCore™ Software Corporation, a leading provider of storage virtualization and networking software, today confirmed it has added finis (finis AG FÜR BANKENSOFTWARE), the Swiss software developer to its growing European-wide customer base. finis was introduced to SANsymphony™ during the course of a SAN (Storage Area Network) presentation by DataCore's local reseller partner Tristar Technologie AG. finis immediately recognized the SAN management and virtualization benefits of SANsymphony and requested the software to be integrated into their SAN solution.
finis AG FÜR BANKENSOFTWARE provides a comprehensive integrated software solution for medium and large-sized commercial banks and funds management institutions. Providing a highly diverse range of bank-specific applications such as databank services, archiving, printing, workflow and output services that can be used on a company-wide, client/server basis. The key factor in finis migration to a fibre channel SAN, was the centralization of storage administration, incorporating advantages for the management and handling of storage devices. In the expert opinion of reseller Tristar, who were tasked with the SAN migration, DataCore's virtualization technology was the only valid option.
"Our goal was central storage management, which would lower the operational expense of restore and backup administration. SANsymphony provides us with exactly that," says Peter Stalder, responsible for IT at finis AG. "With the DataCore solution, Tristar has installed a far-reaching SAN management solution which not only satisfies our current need, but also guarantees complete decision-making freedom in structuring our SAN for future storage expansions."
SANsymphony not only guarantees high performance and stability for heterogeneous storage environments, but also offers comprehensive investment benefits. Administrative expenditure is reduced, existing capacity is put to optimal use, and the system can be expanded with further storage capacity as needed, with complete flexibility and without dependency on hardware. Furthermore, SANsymphony provides security and flexibility for restore and backup processes via its comprehensive redundancy functions.
"Virtualization is the key technology for the consolidation and centralization of modern storage architecture, and software solutions must be the key focus within that," says Manfred Gramlich, regional sales director at DataCore. "Particularly with heterogeneous networks like those at finis, storage administration is a financially decisive factor. That's why we've implemented a solution with our partner Tristar which will also guarantee finis data storage in the future at the highest level of performance with minimum costs."
DataCore storage domain servers housed in two different data centers host UNIX, LINUX, Windows 2000 and NT systems at finis AG FÜR BANKENSOFTWARE. This architecture allows the entire network storage space to be virtualized, allocated to applications as needed, and redundantly mirrored. For scalable functions such as snapshots, mirroring, alternate pathing or asynchronous data mirroring via LAN and WAN networks, the flexibility of data security processes is decidedly higher, and LAN-free/serverless backup is made possible.
"As a value-added reseller (VAR), Tristar specializes in data availability and data security - with a comprehensive range of storage solutions, platforms and services," commented Peter Kestenholz, sales manager at Tristar Technologie AG. "Since we've been working with finis for several years, we know their requirements in precise detail. SANsymphony seemed to us to be the ideal solution to achieve simple, central and effective SAN management while at the same time protect our customer's investment."

About finis AG FÜR BANKENSOFTWARE
The FIS banking software program started to be developed in 1974. Six years later, a non-profit organisation was created, the Pool of FIS User Banks (FBB-POOL), which developed computing applications for the banks in the consortium. The decision to redevelop software solutions brought personnel growth and a restructuring of the organisation. In 1999, the FBB-POOL was finally transformed into the finis AG company for banking software (finis AG FÜR BANKENSOFTWARE). At its head office in Lenzburg (Switzerland) and in the development centre in Geneva, more than 80 specialists construct a modern, integrated, client/server solution, tuned to the needs of medium to large-sized commercial banks and funds management institutions. The applications of finis' new product are developed in close cooperation with the investment banks, i.e. a product produced by professionals for professionals.
