Multiprotocol Switch Connects Distant SANsymphony Storage Pools Over IP

(Oct. 22, 2001) — DataCore™ Software, the leading provider of storage virtualization and networking software, today announced the addition of SANcastleЎ to its SANvantage™ Technical Partner Program. Through this partnership, a 'Powered by DataCore' storage virtualization solution can bridge distant Fibre Channel-based storage pools across IP networks.

The SANcastle GFS-8™ is a true, multi-protocol, full-function switch that seamlessly integrates disparate networks and protocols and provides seamless bi-directional integration of Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet networks over long distances without disruption or technology changes. It offers multi-point SAN island integration across MANs or WANs and e-port for inter-switch connectivity with other Fibre Channel switches. This allows not only remote connectivity, but also disparate island connectivity for enterprises that have already deployed different configurations for various SAN islands. The unique IP translation capability of the switch enables enterprises to fully realize the benefits of Ethernet and Fibre Channel.

SANsymphony's vendor-agnostic approach pools networked storage from multi-vendor platforms, allowing network administrators to distribute available volumes from mixed storage devices within the virtualized pools and serve capacity to any application server on an as-needed basis.
