DataCore and Atempo Team Up to Develop an Enhanced Backup Integration

Technical Partnership Broadens Value by Combining Backup, Restore and Virtualization Expertise

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. and SANTA CLARA, Calif. (September 26, 2001) —DataCore™ Software, the leading provider of storage virtualization and networking software and Atempo (formerly Quadratec Software), the developer of Time Navigator, the software platform for high-performance backup and restore services and latest member of DataCore's growing SANvantage™ Technical Partner Program, announced their joint efforts on developing an enhanced backup integration solution. Joint development work has been done on integrating DataCore's SANsymphony's™ Snapshot functionality with Atempo's Time Navigator for file system level backups. In addition to the work already done, the two companies announced their plans for further work on this project, which includes a tighter integration at the file system level as well as at the block level.

Atempo's Time Navigator is the software platform for high-performance backup and restore services. Specifically designed for corporate data centers (internal) and Internet data centers (outsourced), Time Navigator gives service providers new management tools for enhancing quality of service and delivering new value-added storage services.

This solution offers a feature based on the concept of Time Navigation that allows customers to literally navigate through time continuously to easily access and restore any slice of data, at any level, with pinpoint accuracy. Time Navigator is designed for all the major network storage architectures, including network-attached storage (NAS) or storage area networks (SAN). Time Navigator is available on Windows NT/2000, UNIX, Linux platforms, and is compatible with most automated libraries on the data storage market.

Time Navigator provides backup and restore capabilities on libraries with SANsymphony snapshot tools. These snapshots allow LAN free/Server Less backup and restore, hence skipping the 'backup windows'. SANsymphony improves overall storage utilization and eliminates costly storage-related disruptions, offers customers affordable remote mirroring alternatives for disaster recovery and leverages high availability features of existing storage assets. Through a fault-tolerant architecture, SANsymphony ensures enterprise-level data protection that eliminates single points of failure and offers advanced security for network-wide management and control of storage assets, while leveraging sophisticated caching to improve throughput and network performance. SANsymphony allows companies to distribute storage simply and non-disruptively to UNIX, Windows, Linux, Mac OS and NetWare servers.
