DataCore Advances SAN Virtualization Software State-of-the-Art Features Introduced Into SANsymphony™

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Nov. 29, 2000) - DataCore Software, a leading innovator in storage virtualization software, today introduced new capabilities for its SANsymphony product. The upgrade to DataCore's flagship virtualization software, available immediately, delivers advanced features and functions designed to simplify the configuration, administration and operation of non-stop network storage resources while accelerating virtual disk performance.

SANsymphony is recognized as the premier SAN management solution for consolidating mixed storage devices into a fault-resilient, centrally-managed networked storage pool. Its host- independent virtualization approach enables critical assets to be reallocated on-demand through a simple drag-and-drop function, without disruption. These powerful attributes immediately relieve application servers and their administrators from the stifling downtime and data shuffle clogging the LAN.

"DataCore is the first mover in the SAN virtualization sector to deliver sophisticated data storage functions without compromising business transaction performance," said George Teixeira, president and CEO of DataCore. "There are a lot of promises being made in this space, and DataCore is uniquely fulfilling those expectations - today. Our product is proven, easy-to-use and has already demonstrated significant cost savings and unprecedented return on investment for departmental and enterprise-wide production shops."

Superior Availability, Flexibility, Performance
New features extend SANsymphony's intuitive management interface for consolidating and streamlining the administrative process while broadening the range of services that can be performed by the network storage pool.

The new SANsymphony release provides:
  • Simplified configuration and administration: The software auto-discovers host port addresses, reducing the administrative effort to configure clients of the storage pool. Access to native switch-zoning interfaces are also supplied through the SANcentral GUI to implement end-to-end security over the fabric.
  • Data protection and availability classes: Levels of protection are assigned to SAN-wide virtual disks by simply selecting the appropriate availability option on the management screen. The choices include network mirrored, RAID, alternate-path, linear and clustered redundancy.
  • "Boot-and-Go," rapid host recovery: With SANsymphony, restoring, replacing, and upgrading application servers for rapid expansion or recovering from hardware outages comes down to a simple hardware swap. Such simplicity is a by-product of eliminating application system dependencies on local storage devices and captive boot-up images. Administrators of properly architected network storage pools no longer have to incur error-prone and agonizingly slow operating system reconstruction and tape restores. Instead, online boot images are simply reassigned to the new assets for rapid "boot-and-go" deployment.
  • Extensive SAN-wide monitoring and diagnostic services: Network path and storage device anomalies are proactively monitored to detect and isolate problems.
  • Non-intrusive port and device reassignment: Allows administrators to rapidly redirect data flow around potentially troublesome host-bus adapters, switch-ports and physical disks through drag-and-drop reassignment.
  • Cache performance enhancements: Already designed to scale linearly through the addition of storage domain servers, write-intensive workloads now enjoy specific cache performance enhancements.
Integrators, VARs and resellers will find SANsymphony's newly extended applications programming interfaces (APIs) allow them to increase value and differentiation by adding, optimizing and controlling certain critical features - such as point-in-time backups - to suit the needs of particular customer environments. SANsymphony is widely used in leading companies throughout the financial services, government, e-commerce and multi-media industries, including Chase Manhattan Global Private Banking, The Dannon Company, and broadcaster Thirteen/WNET of New York. It is available through a worldwide network of integrators and resellers who are authorized to deliver and service "Powered by DataCore" solutions.

About the Company:
DataCore Software(tm) Corporation is an innovator in storage networking software. The Company's SANsymphony(tm) storage domain server software converts `islands' of disparate storage into networked storage pools, enabling the easy allocation of storage capacity on an as-needed basis, using a simple 'drag-and-drop' interface. Now administrators can move these 'virtual' volumes among different servers - regardless of the underlying operating system. DataCore distributes its software product through channel and OEM partners worldwide. Founded in 1998 by some of the industry's most respected storage technologists, DataCore is headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., with subsidiaries and branch offices worldwide. For more information, call (877) 780-5111 or visit www.datacore.com
