Thirteen/WNET New York Deploys DataCore SANsymphony to Manage Three SANs

Industry's Only Software-Based Solution Managing Three Terabytes of Data Storage Throughout the Enterprise

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Nov. 8, 2000) - DataCore Software, an innovator in storage area network (SAN) management software, today announced that Thirteen/WNET New York has joined its rapidly expanding customer base.

Thirteen, one of the nation's largest PBS stations, selected DataCore Software's SANsymphony to manage data throughout the enterprise, from video clips to human resources and financial records. The broadcasting giant is using SANsymphony to meet the unique storage needs of three different application environments, including managing exponential storage growth of Mac OS-based video production to streamlining the administration of backup and security measures for Solaris-based production data.

"My users don't understand the challenges of managing three terabytes of data; they just want immediate access to the video they need, when they need it," said Thirteen's vice president and CTO Ken Devine. "We've tested numerous SAN solutions over the past five years, and SANsymphony is the only solution we've found that meets our requirements for manageability, flexibility and reliability."

DataCore Software's SANsymphony is the only storage management product proven to support Thirteen's highly diverse systems environment, which includes Windows NT, Solaris and Mac OS platforms. The software simplifies the management of storage resources by consolidating and organizing previously dedicated Hewlett-Packard storage and disk arrays from a variety of vendors into shared network storage pools that securely serve data storage to any system. SANsymphony's 'drag-and-drop' storage management simplifies administrative tasks such as storage allocation, integration of any storage device, capacity expansion and backups. Its virtualization approach that makes storage available -- regardless of where it resides -- helps Thirteen get more from existing storage investments and significantly increases productivity.

Performance On-Demand
A producer of premier programming such as Nature, Great Performances, and American Masters, Thirteen houses 30 video editing rooms, each of which is in use between 12 and 16 hours a day. Thirteen's users require instantaneous, continuous access to large cached video files for efficient non-linear video streaming processes. The critical operations of one edit room must remain unaffected by others sharing the same data storage array. By providing a secure, flexible means of allocating any storage to any server and providing other benefits such as large amounts of performance-boosting cache, SANsymphony has enabled Thirteen to meet these requirements.
