DataCore Executives to Speak at IBM International Storage Systems Symposium

Industry Veterans Address Trends and Issues in Storage Management

SAN DIEGO (August 29, 2000) - Two of DataCore Software's executives will address some of the biggest trends and issues in storage management at the IBM International Storage Systems Symposium, being held here this week. Mark Friedman, vice president of storage technology, and Augie Gonzalez, director of product marketing, will address storage professionals at three separate sessions offered on Wed., Aug. 30.

Friedman will conduct two sessions focused on issues and trends related to storage management in large-scale UNIX and Windows NT environments. In his first program, "Trends in Networked Storage," Friedman will explore current trends in storage management by comparing and contrasting SAN technologies with network-attached storage technologies, including emerging hardware and software. This session is scheduled for 9 a.m. (PT).

Friedman's second program will focus on the challenges and strategies for managing storage in Windows 2000 environments. This session will be offered at 1 p.m. (PT), and repeated at 4 p.m. (PT).

Friedman, a 20-year veteran of the storage industry, joined DataCore Software earlier this year. Prior to joining DataCore, Friedman was president and founder of Demand Technology, and publisher of Storage Management newsletter. Gonzalez's program, entitled "SAN Virtualization," will offer storage and network administrators, hardware planners and others involved in managing external storage insight into technologies and techniques for creating a virtual storage environment. The presentation will showcase a revolutionary approach that delivers unprecedented flexibility for optimizing storage in today's highly fragmented and proprietary storage environments. Gonzalez will speak at 9:00 a.m. (PT).

Gonzalez has more than 11 years of experience in designing and developing storage management technology and network-oriented business continuance solutions.

Nearly 1,000 participants are expected to attend this year's symposium, which provides a comprehensive series of presentations and product demonstrations delivered by industry experts and IBM storage product developers. The symposium takes place at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, 1380 Harbor Island Blvd. All symposium participants are welcome to attend the presentations.

DataCore SANsymphony Provides Only Software-Based Solution for SAN Management
As storage needs continue to rise dramatically, DataCore Software has developed a powerful software-based management and control solution to help companies meet the challenges of managing storage in highly fragmented and proprietary environments.

Launched in May, SANsymphony, the company's flagship storage domain server software, supports all leading storage devices from storage servers running on UNIX(r), Windows(r) NT, Netware(r) and Linux(r), to the high-speed fibre channel devices that form the backbone of storage area networks. Its cross-vendor compatibility makes SANsymphony the first shipping solution that bridges disparate islands of storage.

SANsymphony converts these 'islands' into a single networked storage pool, letting IT managers and network administrators easily allocate storage capacity on an as-needed basis, using a simple 'drag-and-drop' interface. Now they can move these 'virtual' volumes among different servers - regardless of the underlying operating system.
